Port of Santos has a significant increase in corn exports in July

Corn was the main product exported by the Port of Santos in July and also had a significant increase in shipments from January to July, according to a note released this Friday, 26, by the Santos Port Authority, which manages the port.

There were 2.352 million tons shipped abroad last month, a volume 104.1% greater than the 1.152 million tons exported in July last year.

In seven months, 4.137 million tons of the cereal left the Port of Santos, 132.3% more than the 1.780 million tons exported from January to July 2021.

In the month of July, other products stood out for the volume shipped to the foreign market, such as sugar, with 2.1 million tons, an increase of +9.2%; pulp, with 688 thousand tons, an increase of +57.5%; and diesel oil and gasoline, with 163.9 thousand tons, an increase of +21.9%.

On the other hand, a decrease in the volumes of soya in grain exported by the port of São Paulo. Bulk soybeans totaled 1.259 million tons last month, down 10.9% compared to July 2021; of soybeans per container were 879 tons, 66.5% less than in the same month of 2021.

Meat exports in July increased by 13.5% to 200,009 tons. Shipments of poultry meat grew 71% last month, reaching 64,260 tons; beef, on the other hand, fell 3.2% on the same basis of comparison, to 132.640 thousand tons.

The shipment of coffee beans abroad was also lower in July than in the corresponding month of 2021, by 24%, totaling 131,755 thousand tons. There was a drop in shipments in July, in addition, of citrus juices, 197,361 thousand tons, 9.8% less than in July last year.

In imports, there were considerable increases in July in the landings of wheat, with 117.1 thousand tons (+42.2%) and of salt, with 95.1 thousand tons (+184.9%), according to a statement from Santos Port Authority.

In addition to corn, shipments of other agricultural products also grew in the period from January to July 2022.

Exports from the soy complex totaled 28.4 million tons, an increase of +10.3% compared to the same period in 2021; meats reached 1.3 million tons, an increase of +36.1%.

Santos Port Authority also highlighted diesel and gas oil, whose exported volume reached 1.3 million tons, an increase of +23.7%, and cellulose, with 4.6 million tons, an increase of +59.9% .

Santos Port Authority reported that total cargo handling from January to July totaled 95.5 million tons, an increase of 7.3% compared to the first seven months of 2021 and the highest mark for the period.

The July result totaled 14.5 million tons, being considered the best mark for the month, 15.3% above the corresponding month of 2021.

Of the total volume accumulated in the year, exports totaled 69.7 million tons, an increase of +8.6% and imports, 25.7 million tons, an increase of +4.0%.

The flow of ships also grew, with 465 berths in July, an increase of +16.0% and 3,007 thousand year-to-date increase of +5.2.

The Port of Santos had a share of 28.9% in Brazilian trade in July, with US$ 100.796 million.

Of the domestic commercial transactions with foreign countries that passed through the port last month, 31.3% had China as a partner.
