Agropalma retomará produção de biodiesel no Pará em 2023

Agropalma will resume biodiesel production in Pará in 2023

Agropalma started the works to reactivate the industrial plant in the State of Pará to resume the production of biodiesel from products from the Palm oil at the end of 2023, the company said on Friday.

The company's biodiesel operation was discontinued in 2010 because “the plant used only palm fatty acid to produce biodiesel, and the operation was no longer financially viable”.

Agropalma, a major producer of palm oil, with six extraction industries, two refineries and an export terminal, said that now new technologies available will allow the use of waste from the palm oil production process to manufacture biodiesel.

“Currently, we allocate this material to biodiesel producers, but, with technological advances, the company found it to be operationally and financially more advantageous to transform this raw material into biodiesel in its own plant,” said the director of Refinery Operations in a statement. from Agropalma, Edison Delboni.

Initially, up to 18 million liters of biodiesel may be produced per year, which will be destined mainly for the North and Northeast.

In 2021, Brazil produced 7 billion liters of the biofuel, according to regulator ANP.

“Although it is not an expressive volume, the reactivation of the biodiesel plant will fulfill a strategic function of giving a nobler destination to the by-products of Agropalma's production processes”, added Delboni.

Agropalma did not reveal the value of the investment for the reactivation of the plant, as it is strategic information.
